This Week’s Big OTT Releases

Reporting Live

Platform: Netflix | Release date: 9 October 2026 | Language: Hindi | Genre: Investigative thriller | Type: Movie

Cast: Parineeti Chopra, Deven Bhojani, Amol Palekar, Adil Hussain, Shekhar Suman

Parineeti Chopra plays an ambitious reporter who, along with a veteran cameraman, starts digging into illegal sand mining. The story turns when the pair realise the people they are investigating are far more dangerous than the story they set out to file.

Dhruv Tripathi directs, and he has said he lived with this film for seven years before it reached the screen. It is Parineeti’s second Netflix project after the series Shaque: Trust No One. The supporting cast is worth noting — Amol Palekar and Shekhar Suman are not names you see in streaming thrillers every week. If you like journalism dramas with a crime angle, this is the one Indian title to keep an eye on this week.

Carrie

Platform: Prime Video | Release date: 7 October 2026 | Language: English | Genre: Horror drama | Type: Series, all 8 episodes at once

Cast: Summer H. Howell, Samantha Sloyan, Matthew Lillard, Amber Midthunder, Siena Agudong, Alison Thornton

Mike Flanagan, the creator behind The Haunting of Hill House and Midnight Mass, adapts Stephen King’s first novel. Summer H. Howell plays Carrie White, an isolated teenager with a deeply religious mother who discovers she has telekinetic powers.

The big change from the 1976 film is format and setting. This version is set in the present day, so social media becomes part of how Carrie is bullied, and eight episodes give the story more room than a two-hour film. Flanagan regular Samantha Sloyan plays Carrie’s mother Margaret. It is a good fit for viewers who prefer slow-burn character horror over jump scares.

Below

Platform: Netflix | Release date: 8 October 2026 | Language: English | Genre: Mystery, creature thriller | Type: Limited series, 6 episodes

Cast: Josh Hartnett, Mackenzie Davis, Charlie Heaton

Josh Hartnett plays Calvin Penney, a stubborn fisherman in a small Newfoundland town who is still haunted by his father’s unexplained death years ago. When an unknown sea creature starts attacking the town, Calvin has to keep his community together while the mystery around his father resurfaces.

The show comes from Jesse McKeown, who worked on The Umbrella Academy. With only six hour-long episodes, it is an easy weekend watch. Stranger Things fans will recognise Charlie Heaton.

Animals

Platform: Netflix | Release date: 9 October 2026 | Language: English | Genre: Crime thriller | Type: Movie (rated R)

Cast: Ben Affleck, Kerry Washington, Gillian Anderson, Steven Yeun, Christopher Woodley, Adriana Paz, Luis Gerardo Méndez

Ben Affleck directs and stars as a Los Angeles mayoral candidate whose son is kidnapped. He and his wife, played by Kerry Washington, scramble to pay the ransom, and the pressure pulls out secrets about their marriage that neither wants made public.

Affleck has made tense, grounded crime films before, from Gone Baby Gone to The Town, so this one is drawing attention. The film has also been in the news over Affleck’s use of AI in its production, which he has publicly defended.

Matchbox The Movie

Platform: Apple TV | Release date: 9 October 2026 | Language: English | Genre: Action comedy | Type: Movie

Cast: John Cena, Jessica Biel, Sam Richardson, Arturo Castro, Teyonah Parris, Randeep Hooda, Danai Gurira, Corey Stoll

Inspired by Mattel’s toy cars, the film follows Sean, a spy and former soldier played by John Cena, who reunites with his childhood friends. The reunion goes wrong when the group is drugged and kidnapped by people hunting a nuclear warhead, and they end up having to steal the bomb back to clear their names.

Sam Hargrave, who directed both Extraction films, is behind the camera, so expect a lot of car action. Indian viewers will notice Randeep Hooda in the cast.

Take Charge of My Heart

Platform: Netflix | Release date: 9 October 2026 | Language: Korean | Genre: Romantic comedy | Type: Series

Cast: Kim Young-kwang, Chae Soo-bin

The setup is pure K-drama: Kim Young-kwang plays a third-generation chaebol heir whose artificial heart is running out of battery. Chae Soo-bin plays a drama writer who can generate electricity through physical contact. The show is based on a popular Naver web novel and is built for viewers who like their romance light and a little absurd.

100 Days of Deception

Platform: Netflix | Release date: 10 October 2026 | Language: Korean | Genre: Period spy romance | Type: Series, weekly episodes

Cast: Kim You-jung, Park Jin-young, Kim Hyun-joo

Set during the Japanese occupation of Korea, this tvN drama follows Ga-kyung, a gifted pickpocket played by Kim You-jung, who works for the independence movement and goes undercover as a spy inside the colonial government. Park Jin-young plays a man with two identities. Episodes arrive every Saturday and Sunday, with 16 episodes running until 29 November, so this one will not be finished in a weekend.

Rooster Fighter

Platform: Netflix | Release date: 10 October 2026 | Language: Japanese | Genre: Action comedy anime | Type: Series

Based on the manga by Shu Sakuratani, Rooster Fighter is about exactly what the title says: a rooster who fights giant demons. It plays its ridiculous premise completely straight, which is the joke. A good pick for anime fans after something short and odd.

Dhamaal with Pati Patni Aur Panga Season 2

Platform: JioHotstar (also on Colors TV) | Premiere: 10 October 2026 | Language: Hindi | Genre: Celebrity reality game show | Type: Returning season

Hosts: Munawar Faruqui, Sonali Bendre | Couples announced so far: Shabir Ahluwalia and Kanchi Kaul, Rahul Vaidya and Disha Parmar, Arjun Bijlani and Neha Swami

The second season of the Colors TV couples show puts celebrity pairs through challenges that test how well they know and handle each other. It airs on Colors TV at 9 PM every Saturday and Sunday and streams on JioHotstar. This is the week’s main pick for TV reality fans.

As of 2 October, neither Netflix nor the makers had confirmed the date. The film released in theatres on 10 September with Suhas, Mahima Nambiar and Sathyaraj.
